This is an interactive map created in Flash. It has buttons and hot links much like an online map would but it is a flash file that can be shared in similar methods that PDF or Microsoft Office files are. The only problem is that this blogging website does not display flash files. To get this map to display a public url from 'dropbox' was inserted in this blog entry. If viewing this flash map online becomes too much of a hassle please contact me and I can send you the original flash file.
This is an interactive mountain bike trail map. There are three parts to this, first is the splash/intro screen, the second is the actual interactive map, and the last is the additional information screen. The splash and additional info screens are mostly text and contain several links and hot buttons. From the splash screen the user can access the interactive map or the additional information screen and from the interactive map and the additional info screen the back button can be used to return to the splash screen.
The interactive map is the meat of this project. The map is an original static PDF map of the bike trail system in Fredericksburg, VA. The vector data was imported in Flash and code was added to make objects appear and disappear. The first thing this map will allow users to do is click on each obstacle in the map frame. Once clicked on a picture will appear showing the obstacle at that location. The second function of this map is each trail name can be selected in the legend. This will then display a terrain model at the bottom of that page. Of course the terrain model is for the trail selected and there is a gear at the beginning of the terrain model and a corresponding gear on the trail in the map. Once the play button is clicked (play, pause, and return buttons are found below the north arrow) the gears will travel together linking the maps vector line to the terrain variations.
