Multi-Variable

This map was designed to illustrate the population shift in Pennsylvania, by county. The map uses a multi-variable choropleth design to show patterns between regressing county populations and an elderly population percentage.
The general design of the map follows the current Pennsylvania license plate, blue top, yellow bottom, and information in the center. In addition to the choropleth design, the map highlights the highest and lowest counties in each variable category and also shows the state’s top 10 city’s by population. The larger the text reflects larger population. These sizes are proportional to the population rank and not the city’s actually population because of the large gap in population between the largest city (Philadelphia at 1.5 million) and the 10th most (Altoona at 46,000).
